Online Therapy for COVID-19 Prevention

Uncertainty breeds panic. Panic means we make decisions from our emotions and fail to consider reason. At a time like this, when there are mass closures and it feels like life is on hold, we crave certainty and answers. Without certainty, we feel a loss of control and a tendency to fixate, worry, and point fingers.

With the heightened restrictions regarding social isolation, you've lost the ability to attend regular daily occurrences that exist outside your home, and you may feel an elevated level of anxiety.

If you're no longer able to see your therapist in person or wonder if it's possible to receive virtual counseling to manage the negative consequences of isolation, I'm here to tell you it's easily accessible and research shows, just as effective!

So online therapy...seems weird, not preferable...I get it! Most things we've never done before are odd and it can feel safer to stick with what we know. You may also worry you won't feel the same connection to your therapist over video. Another fair concern.

But what if there is a different possibility? What if I told you it's possible for online therapy to provide you the benefits of traditional counseling without any of the hardship...and while in the comfort of your home. Therapy should contribute to your health, not place you and your family at risk.

Here is how it works:

  • You receive an email invitation with a calendar invitation and the session link, and then click to join during our scheduled session!

  • You can use your smartphone, tablet, computer, or laptop to log in and participate in therapy and meet in our virtual room.

  • I use Regroup Therapy which is like Skype or FaceTime but it's a secure, HIPAA compliant video platform, which has been optimized for the unique requirements of psychotherapy.

  • You choose where in your home you want to sit and speak, like a cozy couch with your cat on your lap, on a lounge chair in your backyard for fresh air and sunshine, with your baby practicing tummy time on the floor by your side, etc - as long as you have privacy :)

It's important that you have a chance to feel out online therapy and determine your own opinion. For this reason, I offer complimentary 20 minute video sessions for you to take a test run and ask as many questions as you need. Just like certain therapists aren't the right fit, online therapy isn't a guaranteed fit either. However, it's a viable option worth exploring if it can provide you help and support right now. And the investment in your well being is worth exploring!
